Freestyle Day Week 1 Cal U Swim Camp

Monday is always Freestyle Day at most swim camp across the country.  The same hold true at Cal U camp this year.

The sunshine greeted us as we walked over to our first classroom session.  It was the first time that we have used a Power Point to do the presentation and it worked amazingly.  Each camper got a handout to take notes on. At the end when I asked the group to raise their hand if they had learned anything new, it was awesome watching every swimmer raise their hand.

The morning water session was spent readjusting to the concept of long axis swimming and being on your side as opposed to swimming flat.  By mid session everyone was consistently Streamlining off every wall, what a great feeling a got watching all these swimmer grab on to the concept about thinking when they swim and making changes.

The afternoon and evening session we spent wrapping up Freestyle and by the end of the night, I can honestly say that every swimmer had improved in some way.

We also had a classroom session on what makes up "Your Swimmer Profile". The lectured concentrated on 4 areas that make swimmer what they are: Water Training, Dry-land Training, Mental Training, and Nutrition.

Tuesday is Backstroke and another day to make a difference to 23 swimmers!
